Why Pinterest Images Are Tricky to Save

Pinterest does not make it easy to download images directly. When you right-click a pin and try to save it, you usually get a low-resolution thumbnail or a Pinterest webpage URL โ€” not the actual high-resolution image file. This is because Pinterest wraps all images in their own viewer system.

The good news is there is a simple method that works every time on desktop: getting the direct image URL by opening the image in a new tab. Once you have the direct URL, Pixovio can download it instantly at full resolution.

Method 1: Desktop Browser (Recommended)

โœ“ Works on Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari
1
Open the Pinterest Pin
Go to Pinterest.com and find the pin with the image you want. Click on the pin to open it. The image will appear in a larger preview on the right side of the screen.
2
Right-Click โ†’ Open Image in New Tab
Right-click directly on the image (not on any button or overlay). From the context menu, select Open image in new tab. This is the key step โ€” it bypasses Pinterest's viewer and loads the raw image file directly.
3
Copy the Direct Image URL
In the new tab that opened, look at the URL bar at the top of your browser. The URL will look like https://i.pinimg.com/originals/... and end in .jpg or .png. Copy this URL.
4
Paste into Pixovio and Download
Open pixovio.xyz in a new tab. Paste the copied URL into the input box on the Image & GIF tab. Click Pixovio โ†’, wait for the preview to load, then click Download to save the image at full resolution.

๐Ÿ’ก Quality Tip: The URL from Pinterest usually contains the word "originals" โ€” this means you are getting the highest resolution version of the image. If you see "236x" or "474x" in the URL, replace that part with "originals" for maximum quality.

Method 2: Mobile (Android / iPhone)

๐Ÿ“ฑ Mobile Tutorial Works on Android & iOS
  1. Open the Pinterest app or Pinterest.com in your mobile browser.
  2. Find the pin and tap to open it.
  3. Tap the three dots menu (โ‹ฏ) on the pin.
  4. Select "Copy link" to copy the Pinterest pin URL.
  5. Open pixovio.xyz in Chrome or Safari.
  6. Note that Pinterest mobile links may not always work directly with Pixovio. For best results on mobile, use a desktop browser.
  7. Alternatively, on Android: long-press the image in the pin โ†’ tap "Open image in new tab" โ†’ copy the direct URL from the address bar โ†’ paste into Pixovio.

โš ๏ธ Important: Pixovio only works with publicly accessible images. Private Pinterest boards and images from private accounts cannot be downloaded by any third-party tool. Always respect the original creator's work and copyright.

Understanding Pinterest Image URLs

Pinterest stores images on their CDN (Content Delivery Network) at i.pinimg.com. The direct image URLs follow this pattern:

Always aim for the "originals" URL to get the highest quality image. You can manually change the size identifier in the URL to "originals" if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I download Pinterest images without an account?
Yes. Public Pinterest pins are visible without an account. You can follow this tutorial to get the direct image URL and download it using Pixovio without logging into Pinterest.
Why does right-clicking Pinterest just save a thumbnail?
Pinterest uses JavaScript to display images inside their own viewer system. A simple right-click save often grabs the Pinterest viewer URL, not the actual image. That is why the "Open image in new tab" method is needed to access the direct image file.
Can I download videos from Pinterest?
Pixovio is an image and GIF downloader. Pinterest video downloading is not currently supported. This tutorial covers image and photo pins only.
Is it legal to download Pinterest images?
Downloading images for personal, non-commercial use is generally accepted. However, Pinterest images are often copyrighted by their original creators. Always credit the original source and never use downloaded images commercially without permission from the rights holder.
Does Pixovio store the images I download?
No. Pixovio does not upload or store any images on its servers. All downloads happen directly between your browser and the image source at i.pinimg.com.
